Belize Permit Club

Belize Permit Club

Nestled amongst the citrus shores of central Belize, the Belize Permit Club has everything for the hardcore permit angler. Conveniently located just south of the small fishing village of Hopkins, permit fanatic Wil Flack has built the house to host anglers in the pursuit of saltwater's holy grail species – the permit. As owner of the Tres Pescados Fly Shop in San Pedro, with decades of experience chasing fish and outfitting in Belizean waters, Wil and his team have the knowledge and tools to get the job done. You won't find fancy pillows or scented soaps here. What you will find is a fly fishing program solely dedicated to the most famous of saltwater flats fish. Belize Permit Club provides clean comfortable lodging and home cooked meals, but more importantly a team of individuals and guides passionate about one thing only... permit on the fly! This trip is provided by Yellow Dog Flyfishing

Overview

For those wanting to focus specifically on permit on the fly, the waters of Southern Belize are arguably the finest in saltwater fishing. While other species are found throughout the area, it should be understood that the fishing in the Hopkins area and the South Water Caye Marine Reserve is focused completely on permit. This means that as a stand-alone trip, this trip may not be for everyone – unless of course, you’re someone who really wants shots at permit on the fly! There are hundreds of prime permit flats in the area, many less than thirty minutes from the lodge. This is permit fishing in the traditional sense – you are looking for fish on the flats and tailing fish in skinny water. The Belize Permit Club fishes from extremely light, custom 23-foot pangas. These boats are ideal for poling the flats and running over open water. All the boats have poling platforms and are designed for fly fishing, with spacious casting decks and clean interiors. Belize Permit Club has loaner rods and reels available for guests that need them.  However, we encourage anglers to bring their own gear that they know and are comfortable with.  Flies, leaders, tippet, and other terminal tackle are provided if necessary.

This trip is available all-year round.

Belize Permit Club sits on the banks of the Sittee River minutes from the Caribbean Sea. Guests stay in comfortable rooms which are capable of hosting up to six anglers at a time.  Basic but comfortable, they feature A/C, two beds, a private bath and shower with plenty of space for your gear. Meals are home-cooked and prepared in the main kitchen. Breakfast and lunch is usually taken in the boat each day, while dinner is served in the dining area or outside to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The menu is a combination of fresh seafood, traditional Belizean cuisine which include chicken, pork, rice and beans, fresh vegetables, and fantastic tortillas. Occasionally, guests can elect to go out in Hopkins for dinner. The bar area at Belize Permit Club includes domestic beverages as part of the package, including ice cold Belikins and cocktails. Each day guests will load into the boats a stone’s throw from the lodge. From the location of the dock, rooms, bar area, barbeque, and the horseshoe pit, the amenities are a testament to the fact that the lodge was built for one thing – providing anglers with a comfortable place to relax before another day on the water.
