Gordy & Sons recently hosted a fundraiser for Ducks Unlimited, raising $2.5million and breaking the record amount raised last year of $1.67million, the largest amount raised at an event for Ducks Unlimited last year.

The fundraiser evening, held on April 4, saw 150 guests enjoying cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres, before hearing guest speakers Adam Putnam, recently appointed CEO of Ducks Unlimited, and Congressman Dan Crenshaw. As well as a raffle, an exclusive live auction was held, with 11 lots including a 16-person duck hunt in Argentina or Uruguay, a 20-gauge over-and-under Rizzini Artemis and a crawfish boil for 50 people. Ducks Unlimited also presented Russell Gordy with a bronze statue to show its appreciation to Gordy & Sons for the support the company has shown by hosting the event.

Ducks Unlimited, founded in 1937, is the largest non-profit organisation dedicated to the conservation of wetlands and associated habitats for North America’s waterfowl, and has conserved more than 14million acres since it was founded. The funds raised at the Gordy & Sons event will be sent to highest priority areas to help fulfil the annual life cycle needs of North America’s wildfowl, including breeding grounds in the Prairie Pothole Region and wintering grounds on the Gulf Coast.

Matt Bunn, Director of Development at Ducks Unlimited, commented: “I’m incredibly happy with how the event went - not only did we raise a fantastic amount for Ducks Unlimited, but everyone had a great time. We at Ducks Unlimited are really grateful to Gordy & Sons for hosting us and making this possible, and to all the incredibly generous donors who gave us items to auction and raffle, as well as those who came out to support DU and Wetlands Conservation.”

Russell Gordy, founder of Gordy & Sons, commented: “Ducks Unlimited is an organisation that stands for all the things we at Gordy & Sons believe in and the combination of hunting and conservation fits into our ethos, so we were really happy to be able to host the evening again. Ducks Unlimited is an organisation that is close to our hearts. We host a lot of events here at the store, but the atmosphere for this fundraiser was fantastic, and we had some great guest speakers. Events like this bring out the best in hunters, and to know that this money raised during this event will go to conserving public and private wetland areas is great. We love having them.”
