For the big game hunter there is no place quite like Africa! For more than a century it has been the ultimate destination for the traveling big game hunter. For the general plains game hunter there is no finer destination in Africa than Kalahari Oryx. Located in the Kalahari region of South Africa, Kalahari Oryx Game reserve is a flagship operation. A rare South African gem consisting of more than 250,000 acres in the Northern Cape. The size of Kalahari Oryx makes it one of the largest privately owned properties in the industry.
Kalahari is home to one of the most diverse populations of game in all of Africa. With all of the popular plains game species including kudu, gemsbok, zebra, impala, blue wildebeest, black wildebeest, sable, roan and all four species of springbok as well as four of the big five, Kalahari Oryx is the safari hunter's dream. Hunting is conducted by the traditional methods of spot and stalk as well as tracking behind the skilled Kalahari trackers. Due to the open nature of the Kalahari region shooting distances are typically longer than other African concessions. As with most safari operations, hunters will depart from the lodge as it begins to break first light in the morning and in most cases will return to the lodge for lunch before heading back out in the afternoon. Kalahari is one of the largest plains game concessions in Africa, making it a truly wild hunt. This trip is provided by High Adventure Company
While the African hunting season is open year round, most of the safaris are conducted at Kalahari from April thru October.
Hunters at Kalahari Oryx can expect representative to above-average trophies for all the plains game species, with kudu averaging over 52 inches and gemsbok over 38 inches. We regularly take buffalo over 40 inches each season.
This is where few hunting operations in the world can compete with Kalahari Oryx. It sets the standard by which all other Africa operations are judged, just take a look at the lodge images in the photo gallery as they speak for themselves. With a very attentive staff and gourmet local cuisine, Kalahari Oryx can handle even the most discriminating clientele.
Most of the hunters coming to Kalahari fly direct to Johannesburg from either Atlanta or Washington DC. From Johannesburg hunters will take the short flight to Uppington, where they will be met for the one-hour transfer to the lodge.
