I love dealing with customers and helping new potential fly fisherman get into this great sport - it’s something I am very passionate about.
Favorite Fly Fishing Kit:
For the Texas coast the most accurate rod I’ve ever used is a Scott Sector 7wt. matched with an Abel Rove 5/7 reel. It’s a perfect combo for our fishery.
For freshwater trout fishing my favorite rig is a Sage 379LL (Light Line) with a Ross Evolution LT Reel.
For big game fishing, which I’d consider off-shore or tarpon fishing I favor a Sage R8 Salt series of rods matched with both Abel and Tibor Reels.
Most Memorable Experience:
A fishing trip with my father to Newhalen Lodge in my college years, the same lodge I later guided at. I spent a whole week on the water, flying about on float planes and fishing with my dad – it’s one memory I will never forget out of all the great trips and memories I’ve ever had.

Baron Boyette

If you visit the store Baron is on hand to talk you through the best fly fishing set-ups and has the knowledge on all the latest gear to come to the market. He also handles the ordering and the planning of the inventory, plus plans the various events the store hosts such as the Galveston Classic Fly Fishing Tournament.
I put my equipment through the ringer day in, day out so I know first hand the best gear out there for our customers.
Favorite rod and reel:
My favorite rod and reel setup for Texas redfish is an Orvis Helios 8wt paired with an Abel Rove 5/7 . The Helios is the perfect rod for the Texas coast. It can load up at 30 feet to hit the surprise redfish at 2 o’clock and it can send a crab 70ft into the wind to serve up dinner to a spooky tailer.
Most Memorable Experience:
When I took my father on his first fly fishing trip a few years back in southern Louisiana. It was one of those days you dream about: blue skies, slicked off water and bull reds stalking the sand flats in search of easy prey. At this point he had only made a few casts in the yard without a fly tied on. After a couple hours of fine tuning we caught our first fish of the day. From that point on Dad was hooked. I’m not sure how many we caught that afternoon, but the fish of the day was a 28lb bruiser, which he landed despite blowing up the rod during the fight. I’ll never forget that day, and neither will my dad.

For trout fishing it is the Scott fiberglass 7’2” for 4wt with a Hardy Princess reel. For redfishing, the Sage Ignitor 6wt matched up with a Ross reel.
Most Memorable Experience:
It was 20 years ago on Nelson spring creek up in Montana. It took 45 minutes of observing and another 30 minutes of casting to land one specific big trout. Yet it only seemed like 15-20 minutes.
