My Mountain rifle. I built it on a blueprinted Remington 700 Titanium action. The barrel, made by Brux, is a fluted number 3 contour chambered in 6.5x47 Lapua. The stock is a T3 silhouette by Robertson Composites.

My favorite rod and reel setup for Texas redfish is a Hardy Zephrus SWS 8wt paired with a Hatch Finatic Gen 2. The Zephrus SWS is the perfect rod for the Texas coast. It can load up at 30 feet to hit the surprise redfish at 2 o’clock and it can send a crab 70ft into the wind to serve up dinner to a spooky tailer.
When I took my father on his first fly fishing trip a few years back in southern Louisiana. It was one of those days you dream about: blue skies, slicked off water and bull reds stalking the sand flats in search of easy prey. At this point he had only made a few casts in the yard without a fly tied on. After a couple hours of fine tuning we caught our first fish of the day. From that point on Dad was hooked. I’m not sure how many we caught that afternoon, but the fish of the day was a 28lb bruiser, which he landed despite blowing up the rod during the fight. I’ll never forget that day, and neither will my dad.
Fly fishing the Texas and Louisiana coasts, or chasing permit fish in the Caribbean.
