Provenance: The rifle is gun 1 of a pair of double rifles ordered by Maharaja Karni Singh (1924–1988), the last ruling Maharaja of Bikaner. He was a distinguished Indian royal, soldier, and internationally recognized sportsman. Educated at elite institutions in India and the United Kingdom, he served in the Indian Army before succeeding to the throne in 1950. Following the integration of princely states, he remained an influential public figure, serving multiple terms in the Indian Parliament. Karni Singh was also an accomplished marksman, representing India in five consecutive Olympic Games (1960–1980) in shooting disciplines. As a royal of a prominent Rajput lineage with a long tradition of hunting and field sport, his firearms reflect both his personal sporting pursuits and the heritage of the Bikaner state.
